Baby, You're A Firework...

Every year, on or around the 5th of November, us Brits get togged up in our winter finest, and brave the inevitable chill, to stare at a load of controlled (but oh-so pretty) explosions.

Now I know we're generally an eccentric bunch, but there is actually method to our madness.

(I know, shocking, isn't it? Usually we're just plain mad.)

Bonfire Night, or Guy Fawkes' Night - as it's otherwise known- commemorates the failed Gunpower Plot concocted, in 1605, by none other than Mr. Guy Fawkes himself- along with his rather shady associates.

And, in honour of their foiled attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament, we let loose a load of explosive pyrotechnic devices with merry abandon. And lots of 'ooohing' and 'aahing'.

I was lucky enough to catch this super sparkly display out of my living room window about an hour ago.

No extortionate entrance fee or freezing cold nose for me...

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
We see no reason,
Why gunpowder treason,
Should ever be forgot.

Happy Bonfire night!
